C&#8217;est le moment o&#249; l&#8217;adr&#233;naline redescend, o&#249; les pilotes - casque &#244;t&#233;, visages marqu&#233;s, &#233;motions &#224; fleur de peau - c&#233;l&#232;brent leur triomphe, pansent leurs blessures ou se laissent juste aller apr&#232;s 90 minutes de course palpitante. Sous les sprays de champagne et au son des hymnes nationaux, les &#233;motions affluent.</strong></p><p><strong>Mais si les c&#233;r&#233;monies actuelles sont parfaitement orchestr&#233;es, il y a eu des moments tellement inattendus : pilotes absents, trompettistes alcoolis&#233;s, et couacs avec les troph&#233;es. Prost, Patrese, Pironi et de&#8239;Cesaris se relaient &#224; la t&#234;te, Daly cale aussi. Finalement, c&#8217;est Patrese qui s&#8217;impose, apr&#232;s l&#8217;avoir red&#233;marr&#233;e en la poussant. Pendant ce micmac, Le Britannique James Hunt r&#233;sume : &#171;&#8239;On est tous &#224; la ligne d&#8217;arriv&#233;e, mais on n&#8217;a toujours pas de gagnant&#8239;!&#8239;&#187;</p><p>Et pendant que la confusion r&#232;gne, Elio de&#8239;Angelis - class&#233; cinqui&#232;me - re&#231;oit un coup de t&#233;l&#233;phone et monte sur le podium aux c&#244;t&#233;s de la royaut&#233; mon&#233;gasque... jusqu&#8217;&#224; ce qu&#8217;on r&#233;alise la boulette.</p><div class="native-video-embed" data-component-name="VideoPlaceholder" data-attrs="{&quot;mediaUploadId&quot;:&quot;b2ee924a-8781-42cb-b175-cdb8f129c6e8&quot;,&quot;duration&quot;:null}"></div><ol start="2"><li><p><strong>Prost jette son troph&#233;e &#224; la foule ; Ron Dennis est furieux (Italie, 1989)</strong></p></li></ol><p>Pour certains, les troph&#233;es n'ont que peu de signification &#233;motionnelle - mais pour Ron Dennis, directeur de l'&#233;quipe McLaren, ils &#233;taient une propri&#233;t&#233; sacr&#233;e.</p><p>Les tensions entre Prost et Dennis couvaient depuis le d&#233;but de la saison, apr&#232;s que Prost ait annonc&#233; son d&#233;part imminent pour Ferrari. Le geste de Prost sur le podium n&#8217;a pas &#233;t&#233; accueilli avec beaucoup d&#8217;enthousiasme.</p><p>Vainqueur pour la quatri&#232;me et derni&#232;re fois de la saison lors du Grand Prix d&#8217;Italie, Prost fut acclam&#233; par une foule de Tifosi en d&#233;lire mass&#233;e sous le podium. Selon la F1, l&#8217;ancien coordinateur de l&#8217;&#233;quipe McLaren Jo Ramirez se souvenait : </p><p>&#171;&#8239;Ils criaient &#8220;Coppa, Coppa&#8221;. Alain s&#8217;est dit &#8220;ce sera mon public l&#8217;an prochain&#8221;, alors il s&#8217;est approch&#233; et a simplement l&#226;ch&#233; le troph&#233;e. D&#232;s qu&#8217;il a touch&#233; la foule, il a &#233;t&#233; d&#233;membr&#233; en mille morceaux - l&#8217;un a pris une anse, un autre la base, un autre le centre...&#8239;&#187;</p><p>Ron Dennis, visiblement furieux de voir le troph&#233;e de McLaren dispara&#238;tre, a balanc&#233; le troph&#233;e constructeur aux pieds de Prost avant de quitter le podium en trombe. Depuis, la politique interne de McLaren exige que les pilotes remettent imm&#233;diatement leurs troph&#233;es &#224; l&#8217;&#233;quipe pour exposition.</p><div 1977)</strong></p></li></ol><p>Dans l&#8217;un des moments les plus absurdes de l&#8217;histoire des podiums F1, le pilote australien Alan Jones a remport&#233; son tout premier Grand Prix lors de la manche autrichienne de 1977. Alors qu&#8217;il s&#8217;appr&#234;tait &#224; monter sur le podium pour entendre son hymne national, les organisateurs - apparemment pris au d&#233;pourvu - n&#8217;avaient tout simplement pas l&#8217;hymne australien sous la main.</p><p>&#171;&#8239;Les organisateurs ne s&#8217;attendaient visiblement pas &#224; ce que je gagne, puisqu&#8217;ils n&#8217;avaient pas l&#8217;hymne national australien &#187;, confiait Jones &#224; formula1.com. &#171;&#8239;&#192; la place, un type ivre a jou&#233; &#8220;Happy Birthday&#8221; &#224; la trompette - et des trompettes, il y en avait beaucoup en Autriche&#8230;&#8239;&#187;</p><p>&#192; l&#8217;&#233;poque, ce sont souvent les organisateurs locaux qui g&#233;raient l&#8217;ensemble de la c&#233;r&#233;monie du podium. Les erreurs arrivaient de temps &#224; autre, surtout quand les &#233;quipes n&#8217;avaient rien pr&#233;par&#233;. Mais lors du Grand Prix du Japon en 1977, James Hunt et Carlos Reutemann ont d&#233;cid&#233; de passer leur tour.</p><p>La course est aujourd&#8217;hui surtout connue pour les pluies torrentielles et le brouillard qui ont balay&#233; le circuit, plongeant de nombreux pilotes dans l&#8217;inqui&#233;tude quant &#224; la s&#233;curit&#233;. Elle reste aussi tristement c&#233;l&#232;bre pour le crash dramatique entre la Ferrari de Gilles Villeneuve et la Tyrrell &#224; six roues de Ronnie Peterson, causant la mort d&#8217;un cam&#233;raman et d&#8217;un commissaire de piste. Mais l&#8217;un des moments les plus &#233;tranges du week-end est bien la c&#233;r&#233;monie du podium.</p><p>Hunt, vainqueur de la course, en avait assez de la politique en F1 et des conditions de course &#8211; il a tout simplement quitt&#233; le circuit pour attraper son vol. Reutemann l&#8217;a suivi peu apr&#232;s. R&#233;sultat : seul le troisi&#232;me, Patrick Depailler, est mont&#233; sur le podium pour f&#234;ter sa place, pendant que les officiels tentaient de sauver les apparences.</p><p>Des incidents comme celui-ci ont conduit la FIA &#224; renforcer les exigences concernant la pr&#233;sence obligatoire des pilotes sur le podium. Que ce soit un hymne mal choisi, un pilote absent ou un geste inattendu de vos rivaux, ces moments nous rappellent qu&#8217;en Formule 1 - malgr&#233; tout son professionnalisme - il reste une place pour l&#8217;impr&#233;vu.</p><p>Le podium n&#8217;est peut-&#234;tre pas l&#8217;&#233;l&#233;ment central d&#8217;un Grand Prix, mais c&#8217;est souvent le plus humain. En France, la presse les oppose : d&#8217;un c&#244;t&#233; Arnoux, le rebelle flamboyant, instinctif, impr&#233;visible ; de l&#8217;autre Prost, surnomm&#233; &#8220;le Professeur&#8221;, froid, m&#233;thodique, strat&#233;gique. Chaque course devient une question identitaire : <em>Qui est le v&#233;ritable h&#233;ros fran&#231;ais ?</em></p><p>Prost en souffre particuli&#232;rement. Lui qui s&#8217;est toujours senti incompris par le public fran&#231;ais. &#171; Quand je suis arriv&#233; chez Renault, la presse m&#8217;adorait. Mais en 1982, j&#8217;&#233;tais devenu le m&#233;chant. Mon erreur, franchement ? Avoir gagn&#233;. Les Fran&#231;ais n&#8217;aiment pas les vainqueurs. Ils pr&#233;f&#232;rent les perdants glorieux. &#187;</p><p><strong>Arnoux, martyr ador&#233;</strong></p><p>Il faut dire qu&#8217;Arnoux savait se faire aimer. Son temp&#233;rament de feu, son panache &#224; la fran&#231;aise, faisaient de lui une figure presque romanesque. Prost, lui, paraissait distant, c&#233;r&#233;bral. Dans un pays qui avait idol&#226;tr&#233; Fran&#231;ois Cevert, et m&#234;me Gilles Villeneuve, Prost restait une &#233;nigme.</p><p>Les deux s&#8217;&#233;vitaient en interview, s&#8217;envoyaient des piques &#224; peine voil&#233;es. Selon Heinz Pr&#252;ller, Arnoux aurait m&#234;me crach&#233; sur une photo de Prost dans un journal. Les fans se divisent. Les m&#233;dias attisent le feu.</p><p><strong>Une rivalit&#233; tr&#232;s actuelle</strong></p><p>Dans une &#233;poque o&#249; les m&#233;dias fa&#231;onnent les histoires avant m&#234;me que les pilotes ne les &#233;crivent, cette rivalit&#233; sonne &#233;trangement moderne. Des s&#233;ries comme <em>Drive to Survive</em> prosp&#232;rent sur la dramaturgie plus que sur la v&#233;rit&#233;. Parfois, l&#8217;histoire est impos&#233;e avant m&#234;me que les protagonistes ne puissent la vivre.</p><p>Ce n&#8217;&#233;tait pas juste Prost contre Arnoux. C&#8217;&#233;tait id&#233;ologie contre instinct. Image contre authenticit&#233;. Le surnom contre le mythe. d&#233;passe pas 1,5 m&#232;tre de large - ce qui obligeait les roues &#224; d&#233;passer largement de chaque c&#244;t&#233;, nuisant &#224; l&#8217;a&#233;rodynamisme et acc&#233;l&#233;rant l&#8217;usure des pneus. L&#8217;id&#233;e de Gardner : des roues avant plus petites, dissimul&#233;es derri&#232;re l&#8217;aileron. Cela permettait non seulement de r&#233;duire la tra&#238;n&#233;e et la portance, mais aussi de simplifier l&#8217;a&#233;rodynamique du nez, offrant un gain estim&#233; &#224; 40 chevaux. Pourquoi quatre roues &#224; l&#8217;avant ? Parce qu&#8217;ainsi, la surface de contact - et donc l&#8217;adh&#233;rence et le freinage - &#233;tait doubl&#233;e.</p><p></p><p><strong>Des d&#233;buts prometteurs</strong></p><p>La P34 fit ses d&#233;buts au Grand Prix d&#8217;Espagne 1976 avec Patrick Depailler. Elle fit sensation imm&#233;diatement. &#192; partir de la manche suivante en Belgique, Jody Scheckter rejoignit le projet. Et d&#232;s sa quatri&#232;me course, &#224; Anderstorp en Su&#232;de, la P34 r&#233;alisa un doubl&#233; historique : Scheckter l&#8217;emporta haut la main.</p><p>Sur deux saisons, Tyrrell enregistra une pole, une victoire et 14 podiums. En 1976, l&#8217;&#233;quipe termina 3e au classement constructeurs, et Scheckter 3e chez les pilotes.</p><p>Mais les pneus avant Goodyear, sp&#233;cialement con&#231;us en 10 pouces, n&#8217;&#233;taient pas &#224; la hauteur : trop peu d&#233;velopp&#233;s, ils s&#8217;usaient vite et manquaient de performance face aux pneus standards. La suspension avant, tr&#232;s complexe, ajoutait du poids, causant des surchauffes au freinage. Sur des circuits bossel&#233;s - la norme &#224; l&#8217;&#233;poque - la voiture devenait impr&#233;visible, l&#8217;adh&#233;rence fluctuant violemment. Malgr&#233; sa victoire avec la voiture, Scheckter d&#233;clara que la P34 &#233;tait &#171; une &#233;pave &#187;, &#171; incontr&#244;lable &#187;.</p><div class="native-video-embed" data-component-name="VideoPlaceholder" data-attrs="{&quot;mediaUploadId&quot;:&quot;a9c7a391-ab9b-4e08-9bb7-26353cc6f43e&quot;,&quot;duration&quot;:null}"></div><h3>L&#8217;h&#233;ritage d&#8217;un pari</h3><p>En 1977, les r&#233;visions alourdirent la voiture et diminu&#232;rent sa fiabilit&#233;. Les podiums disparurent, les abandons se multipli&#232;rent. Le coup fatal fut port&#233; quand Goodyear cessa de d&#233;velopper les pneus avant sur mesure. Fin 1977, Tyrrell abandonna le concept. Peu apr&#232;s, la FIA interdit toute voiture n&#8217;ayant pas exactement quatre roues.</p><p>Et pourtant, la P34 laissa une empreinte durable. D&#8217;autres tent&#232;rent l&#8217;aventure des multi-roues, jusqu&#8217;&#224; ce que le r&#232;glement ferme d&#233;finitivement la porte.
